WHY BIKRAM YOGA?

BIKRAM YOGA is not a fad. BIKRAM YOGA is a prescription: 26 Postures + 2 Breathing Exercises, 90 Minutes, Hot & Humid, Authentic, Pure, Undiluted: mentally, physically, emotionally & biochemically. BIKRAM YOGA is a demanding series of 26 postures (asanas) and 2 breathing exercises (pranayamas) which is suitable for all ages and levels of ability. This series of 26 postures begins by waking up the body and expanding the lungs through deep breath work that pumps fresh oxygen into the circulatory system. The next few poses work, stretches and strengthens specific muscles, ligaments and joints in the fingers, arms, shoulders, neck and upper spine.

Moving down the body, the sides and the entire spine are stretched, re-aligning hunched shoulders, tight chests and backs. This is followed by balancing postures that combine skills of concentration, patience, determination and self-control that increase mental clarity and reduce stress.

The Bikram yoga method also stimulates the organs, glands and nerves, moving fresh oxygenated blood to 100% of the body, restoring all systems to a healthy working order. This series continues to work systematically through the entire body, leaving not one organ, bone, joint, muscle, ligament, tendon, blood vessel, nerve or gland unattended.

Bikram Choudhury, the founder of the worldwide Yoga College of India™ scientifically designed this 90-minute program to deliver total health throughout balancing and strengthening of every system in the body in order to prevent illness and injury, promote weight loss, and limit the effects of aging.

BIKRAM YOGA is done in a heated room to warm your muscles, prevent injury, allow a deeper workout, and cleanse the body by flushing toxins. If you’re serious, once the hard work is finished, 100% of the body will optimally function. This is called ENERGY.

FAQ

  • It’s my first time, what should I do?

Arrive 20 minutes before the class time. Check in with our front desk staff and let them know you are new and they will take care of you.

  • What should I wear?

Wear comfortable clothing: tank tops, sports bra, breathable tees, yoga shorts, or running shorts are ideal. Avoid pants, sweats and long sleeve shirts. Undergarments or see-through garments are not permitted in the yoga room.

  • What should I bring?

A yoga mat, large towel, and bottle of water.

Please do not bring your cell phone, wallet, car keys, bag, etc. into the hot room. There are cubbies in the changing rooms, which are members-only areas, to store your personal belongings.

  • What should I eat or drink before, during or after the class?

Come to class on an empty stomach – but don’t starve yourself all day! You burn a lot of calories in class, so your body needs fuel to go! Most people find they need to allow 2 hours between eating and taking class. Some find it helpful to eat a piece of fruit before class. As you practice this yoga, your own innate wisdom will emerge and guide you as to what is right for you.

Please come to class well hydrated. You need to drink a lot of water throughout the day to ensure you’re properly hydrated for class (half your body weight in ounces). Once class begins, hold off on drinking water until “party time” to allow your body to heat up and for your mind to stay focused. Some type of electrolyte supplementation is encouraged.

  • How often should I do yoga?

The more often you practice, the quicker you will see results. The general rule is to practice 3 times a week for maintenance, and 4-5 times or more per week to start seeing some big changes. Sometimes it takes a few classes for your body to get acclimated to exercising in a heated environment. We encourage new students to practice 10 times in 10 days to build a good foundation for your continuing yoga practice.

My Background

After almost 2 decades in the hectic and fast-paced world of Corporate America, I finally realized the damaging effects of the stressful nature of my job and life in general. I have suffered from depression and anxiety and continuously becoming unhappier with my job. I also suffered from Type 2 Diabetes. I felt like I’m losing control of my health and becoming more aware that I needed a big change in my life.

I have been introduced to Bikram Yoga in May 2006 and quickly realized the limitless benefits of hot yoga. I quickly fell in love with the practice and have been a committed practitioner ever since. Needless to say, I was completely healed from my depression, anxiety & Type 2 Diabetes only less than 6 months of solid practice. It is such a big & powerful testimony I will carry with me forever! I also have developed a deeper understanding and passion for my practice that I wanted to become a vessel & messenger of this powerful & proven effective natural healing method.

After 4 years of practicing my Bikram Yoga, I decided to go the Teachers’ Training in the Fall of 2010 in San Diego, California.

Currently (Spring 2018), I have about 12 years combined experience as a committed practitioner and a Bikram Yoga teacher. I have taught about 7,000 classes under my belt. In the Fall of 2012, I also have left the United States to live in Dubai, United Arab Emirates for about 1-1/2 years to become the main/pioneer Bikram Yoga teacher of the 3rd & the newest Bikram Yoga studio in Dubai at that time.

Now, I am very committed & focused in being of service to my community in providing a wonderful yoga studio for the healing & growth of every student.
